Okocha seeks progress

Nigerian midfielder Jay-Jay Okocha insists Bolton will not be satisfied with avoiding relegation from the English Premiership.

Okocha, who captains his club and country, said the Lancashire club is determined to prove they have become a permanent fixture in the topflight.

"We have gone past that stage (relegation) now, although we know we have got to keep our feet on the floor.

"We will just stay focused and try and keep a good season going.

"It is our ambition to stay in the top six after the Christmas programme."

Bolton boss Sam Allardyce hopes his side will consolidate on what he described as a dream start to the season.

"We are averaging almost two points a game, which is something you dream about.

"It gives us a base to achieve what we want to.

"Our drive is not to waste what we have worked hard to achieve up until now.

"We have never ridden in the top six consistently before, and people are talking about Europe.

"Let's hope we can keep them talking right through to May.

"There is always a surprise club in the pack, and I hope we can that be that surprise club this year."

Meanwhile, Khalilou Fadiga is expected to return to the club at the beginning of next week, when his future will be discussed.

The Senegal international had an automatic defibrillator implanted in his heart after collapsing on the pitch before a Carling Cup game against Tottenham.

"We expect him back either on Monday or Tuesday," said Allardyce.

"We will have a chat with him and review all the reports from the specialist, which at the moment are positive."
