AS a follow-up to the ANPP crises in Jigawa
state, a 14-member committee has been set up to facilitate the merger of All
Nigeria People's Party (ANPP) and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
The merger of the two parties is part of the
agreement reached following the decamping of Governor Ibrahim Saminu Turaki
from ANPP to PDP.
Our correspondent in Dutse learnt that as soon
as the merger is concluded, the All Nigeria People's Party (ANPP) will cease
to exist, turning Jigawa as one party state.
The merger will give the PDP power as the only
party to produce candidates in 2007 elections.
A three-page letter addressed to the national
vice chairman of PDP, North-West zone, Dr. Bello Halliru by Jigawa state
chapter of the party, explained that the committee is to sit on a roundtable
with Governor Turaki and ANPP representatives to discuss and deliberate on
how to achieve the set objectives.
The letter fully explained: "The committee was
set up to work out possible modalities based on the peculiarity of our own
state (Jigawa) at which the two parties could be fused together as one party
and work together as strong and formidable political team.''
According to the letter which was also
addressed to the national chairman of the party, the committee has Alhaji
Ahmad Hassan as chairman while Ambassador Daudu Suleiman, Usman Alto Roni
and chairman North-West Senatorial zone, Hon. Isa Zakari Bosuwa would serve
as members.
Other members include chairman,
South-Senatorial zone, Hon. Adamu Ayuba, chairman North-East Senatorial
zone, Muhammad Ahmad Tasi'u, Alhaji Abdullahi Ahmad (Matawallen Hadejia),
Alhaji Ibrahim Isma'il (Jarman Ringim) and Senator Musa Bako Aujara.
Also in the committee are Alhaji Abubakar
Fulata, Alhaji Ado Abubakar Maigatari, ACP Ahmadu Abubakar, Alhaji
Abdulhamid Sadiq Adamu and Barrister Yakubu Ruba.
The letter which was jointly signed by Jigawa
state chairman of the PDP, Alhaji Usman Alto Roni and minister of state for
works, Alhaji Saleh Shehu, explained that the committee is the only
legitimate body to facilitate the merger.
Other terms of reference of the committee
include harmonization of political positions between members of the two
parties.
