BEBEJI local government area of Kano state has
purchased 40 motorcycles and distributed them as soft loan, to the people of
the area, as a way of alleviating poverty among them.
The council chairman, Alhaji Dankaka Hussaini
Bebeji, made the disclosure while distributing the motorcycles at Bebeji
town, headquarters of the council.
Alhaji Bebeji urged the beneficiaries to ensure
good use of the motorcycles saying they should also ensure to maintain road
regulations while riding.
The council chairman, explained that his
council bought each motorcycle at the sum of N110,000 and disbursed them to
the beneficiaries at N50,000 which they would repay installmentally at the
rate of N2,000 monthly.
He promised that his council would purchase
more and distribute them to the people, saying that those who did not get
the in first phase of the exercise would do so next time urging them to bear
with the council.
In another development, the council chairman
has also distributed some materials for burriying the dead.
On his part, the NULGE chairman of the council,
Comrade Maikudi Sale Bebeji, commended the effort of the council towards the
provision of social amenities to the people in the area.
Meanwhile, the local council has also awarded
contract worth N17 million for the construction of six kilometer Durmawa
Zango road.

Bebeji, while inspecting the project, said the contract included the
construction of head-bridge and five other culverts to ease transportation
problems bedeviling the people of the area.
According to him the projects are expected to
be completed within three weeks.
On his part, the council�s head of works and
housing department, Alhaji Gwadabe Zubair Dawaki enjoined the contractor to
do a good work based on the agreement reached.
Similarly, the council has disbursed about N5
million as scholarship to students in the area for 2003/2004 session.
According to the scholarship committee chairman
of the council, Malam Basiru Muhammed Kofa, the assistance was aimed at
enhancing educational development in the area.
He said, the local government has been taking
measures to improve its education sector, calling on wealthy individuals in
the area to complement the local government�s efforts towards achieving the
objectives.
Malam Kofa, called on students in the area to
shun drugs abuse and study hard to make the council proud.
He enjoined other local councils in the state
to emulate Bebeji by supporting students education adequately.
He urged parents in the area to continue to
send their children to schools and inspect their performance while at
schools and home.
He then commended the council chairman for his
effort at the revival of the educational sector in the area.
On his part, one of the students from Bayero
University Kano, Kabir Danjuma Adamu, commended the scholarship committee
and the local government for their ability to listen to their complaints at
any time.
He called on the students to continue to give their maximum
support and cooperation to the council to enable it achieve more success.
