DAILY TRIUMPH-Jigawa ANPP crisis further deepens

                                                  MONDAY , NOVEMBER 8, 2004   RAMADAN 26, 1425 A.H.

Jigawa ANPP crisis further deepens

As the crisis deepens in the Jigawa ANPP, an army of thugs has prevented the state chairman of the party, Babannan Rabo from entering the secretariat in Dutse.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the state ANPP secretariat was cordoned off by suspected thugs, who had locked the gates to the secretariat with strict instruction to turn back the anti-Turaki group.

The anti-Turaki group, led by the state ANPP chairman had resolved to expel Governor Saminu Turaki from the party over his alleged decision to defect to the PDP.

Meanwhile, loyalists of the governor have barricaded the ANPP secretariat to prevent a scheduled press conference to announce the expulsion.

Vice chairman of the party, Muhammad Daguro, said they were not ready to accommodate those not willing to back the governors decision to decamp.

NAN further reports that pro-Turaki supporters have sealed off the secretariat, forcing the chairman to hold the press conference at another place.

Briefing newsmen on the development, Rabo explained that he was prevented from exercising his legitimate role as the chairman of the party by the pro-Turaki group.

We are prevented from entering the party secretariat by thugs, hired by pro-Turaki group, he said.

He maintained that the group would continue to oppose the Turaki-PDP project to sustained the democratic governance as the move violated the mandate reposed to the party by the electorates.

No amount of intimidation would deter us from pursuing our course and liberate the state from the shackles of Turakis misrule, he added.

NAN however, reports that the group resolved at a meeting held in Kano over the weekend to expel Turaki from the party for alleged anti-party activities.
