Physician represents Nigeria at international congress, in Hawaii

Nigeria�s international awards winner, Dr Moses Bestman is to represent Nigeria at the congress of the American Biographical Institution (ABI),

Honolulu, Hawaii, next year.

The congress which comes up as from 5th to 11th June 2005 in the Asian country of Hawaii, is on science, culture and arts in the 21st century.

Bestman, the principal medical officer in charge of Rivers state owned Niger hospital, Port Harcourt, had bagged more than 20 international awards in medicine.

The awards include that of the American Biographical Institution (ABI), the international Biographical Centre (IBC), Cambridge and honorary appointment into research board of advisors, 2002.

Others were the world academy of letters, USA, listing in the Who is Who in the 21st century and member, board of governors and lifetime deputy governor of the ABI.

Besttman is among the 76 African and 25 Nigerian deputy-directors of American International Biographical Centre, which recognises excellence in medicine, international affairs, arts and culture.

Bestman had also bagged five gold and two silver medals for excellence in medical practice.

Other Nigerians on the American IBC board include Prof. Peter Isichei, Dr Dozie Ikedife, Alhaji Umar Faruk Abdullahi and Prof. Kamaldee Balogun, among others.

Dr Bestman told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)in Port Harcourt on Friday that although all the international honours did not carry cash rewards, he was encouraged and humbled by the recognition.

�You get the feeling that your inputs to the well being of the society is being recognised internationally,� Bestman who had served as personal physician to four Rivers state chief executives said.

Asked if he could make the trip without state sponsorship, Bestman said, �although I am cash strapped now to make such an international trip, I have to attend it because it will enrich my knowledge, practice and my country.�

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the 2002 and 2003 congress of the American Biographical Institute were held in Canada and Dublin respectively.
