MONDAY , NOVEMBER 8, 2004   RAMADAN 26, 1425 A.H.           Robbers raid Adeyemi College of Education Some gunmen on Friday attacked the Adeyemi College of Education, Ondo, carting away money and documents from the office of the institution�s Provost. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) learnt that the gunmen bugled the accounts, bursar�s and cashier�s officers as well as the Aogo Community Bank, located within the college premises. The robbers were said to have over-powered seven security men, and two students they found reading in the night, and tied under trees before ransacking the offices. The Acting Provost of the College, Dr Ebenezer Akorede, who confirmed the incident said he was informed about the attack at about 4.30 a.m. on Friday, adding that the police and the State Security Service (SSS) were promptly informed. Korede told NAN the offices of the Provost, Chief Accountant, Bursar, Auditors, Public Relations Officer (PRO), and the Aogo Community Bank were broken into, adding that valuable items and documents were removed. NAN recalls that the office of the Provost had remained vacant since early June 2004, following the suspension of Dr Reuben Adeboyeje, over allegation financial impropriety. �It looked to us as if it is a drama by people who know the topography of the college, and it is like they have specific mission for coming to pick some vital documents, and only carried out the operation to look like a robbery or burglary case,�� Akorede old NAN. Contacted, the state Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr Celestine Nmerole, confirmed that the hoodlums made away with cash worth N677,000 from the cash office and some vital documents from the office of the Provost.
