WEDNESDAY , NOVEMBER 9, 2004   RAMADAN 28, 1425 A.H.           Bauchi trains 100 polio immunisation officials Some 100 officials have been trained in Bauchi State ahead of the fifth round of the National Programme on Immunisation (NPI) against polio. The exercise is scheduled for Nov. 20 to Nov. 23. Malam Baba Lamido, the state NPI Manager, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi at the weekend that the officials comprised central facilitators and field staff. Lamido explained, that the officials were trained at a three-day workshop held last week at the Specialist Hospital, Bauchi. He explained that vaccines and other equipment needed for the immunisation were being expected from the NPI headquarters in Abuja ``to prepare the ground for a successful implementation''. He said some 700,000 children aged between 0 and 59 months were expected to be immunised against the deadly virus during the exercise in the state. Meanwhile, the Bauchi State Social Mobilisation Committee on Polio Eradication has concluded plans to pay an advocacy visit to the 13 local government council areas, which earlier rejected the immunisation. The Chairman of the committee, Alhaji Aminu Abubakar, told NAN that the visit was to correct the negative impression about the vaccines.
