Ogun gears up for Sports Festival hosting

Ogun State Sports Commissioner, Otunba Fatai Sowewimo has told nigeriasports.com that he is optimistic his state will put up a good show when they host the National Sports Festival in 2006.

The Ogun State Sports boss in a chat with nigeriasports.com said they already have a blue print for the successful hosting of the games and do not envisage any problems.

"Right now we have one of the best stadiums in the country, which is the MKO Abiola Stadium and I'm going to put plastic chairs all over before the end of the year."

"My plan is to make sure we have a functional stadium in every senatorial district and that is why we will have one at Ijebu Ode, then there will be one at Ilaro and of course we have the one at Abeokuta which is the MKO Abiola Stadium.

"To involve old sporting heroesOtunba Sowewimo insists the state will not neglect athletes like Falilat Ogunkoya, Oyeledun and other athletes who have made Ogun state proud in times past as they host the 2006 games.

"All along we were waiting for the State to be confirmed as hosts for the games so now that it has been done we will get to work immediately to ensure smooth packaging of the sports festival.

Sowewimo told nigeriasports.com that Ogun state has more industries than both Rivers and Kaduna state, two states who contested the bid with Ogun.

"Look at Ota, look at Agbara Estate and you will also notice that many industries are moving to Ogun state and that is how we hope to grab some corporate sponsorship for the games."

"We will appeal to them and they will join up with us because they are going to benefit from being part of the games."

He pelted the just concluded games in Abuja for lack of corporate sponsorship saying the 2006 games will surely be better.
