As the financial crunch biting hard on
Nigeria's U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles bits harder, Chief Coach of
the side, Samson Siasia has gone cap in hand to the Governor of Abia state
for help, nigeriasports.com can exclusively report.
Flying Eagles Coach, Sampson Siasia who was at
the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba told nigeriasports.com that he was
in Aba to meet with Orji Uzor Kalu, the Governor of Abia state, to ask for
sponsorship for the Flying Eagles.
"I've been crying around all this time because
w have to prepare, but this money issue is distracting us.
We need these boys to play together to blend,
play friendly games but the NFA say they have money problems so if
individuals don't come out to help we will be in trouble."
"This is very very important. I need help. It's
a serious problem that we must solve.
I have spoken to the governor and I hope he is
going to come out and help."In spite of the problems, Siasia says the talent
in the team can do the country proud.
According to him, he has stopped trials since
he has got the core of his team together.
"Right now I am open to suggestions and will
gladly accept any player who is recommended to me.
Siasia described his coaching experience as
very challenging."I never knew it was going to be this difficult coaching
the national team, and the money problems made it even more difficult but I
am optimistic we will get to the World Cup.
The former Super Eagles striker attributed the
problem of youth football in the country to lack of youth development
programs unlike in his days.
"When we were growing up we played from the
primary school, secondary school and them the ysfon level, but we don't have
things like that any more and that is one major problem we have facing our
youth teams today.
"Back in those days we had events like the Principals Cup but
they don't exist anymore. Right now every one just wants to have an academy
and go to Europe."
