WEDNESDAY , NOVEMBER 9, 2004   RAMADAN 28, 1425 A.H.           Sokoto police arrest 4 suspected robbers The Sokoto police command has arrested four suspected armed robbers, the state Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Idris Muhammad, has announced. The suspects were alleged to have carried out robberies at Tamaje village in the Sokoto South Local Government Area and on the Sokoto-Isa road in the state. Muhammad told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the weekend in Sokoto that eight bandits allegedly invaded Tamaje village, shooting into the air. He said the suspects, on interrogation, told the police that they came from Kontagora in Niger State. The police boss said a red Peugeot 505 vehicle, a gun and 21 rounds of ammunition were recovered from them. The suspects had allegedly robbed one Aliyu Umar of Tamaje village of the sum of N23,000. During the Sokoto-Isa road robbery, Mohammed said the hoodlums attacked a car and shot a bread hawker on the leg, who was returning to Sokoto. He said the victim had been admitted at the Sokoto Specialist Hospital for treatment. Meanwhile, a trigger-happy policeman who allegedly shot dead one Ibrahim Maigarge of Isalibawa area of Sokoto metropolis would soon be charged to court, Mohammed said. He said ``justice will be done in the case, as nobody asked him to go and shoot.''
