In order to ensure good facilities are in place for the
forthcoming Nigeria University Games (NUGA) billed for University of Port
Harcourt (Uniport) students have been asked to vacate their hostels for the
renovation work to commence.
Speaking with Nigeriasports.com in Port Harcourt on
Monday, member of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) and director of
Sports Uniport, Dr. Ken Anugwueje disclosed that the students would vacate
the hostel before 16 November to enable the construction workers to resume
their work.
"We gave the students a deadline to vacate their hostels
by 16 November to enable construction workers resume work there.
As you can there is no way they can commence work if
students are still hanging around the buildings," he said.
He stressed that there are many work to be done within
the building to make sure all participating Universities enjoys their stay
on the campus while the competition lasts.
Apart from little renovations around the complex, we want
to give the hostels a face-lift, with new bird and mattresses, running taps,
change some of the damaged lights, new panting.
We are striving hard to make sure conducive shelter is
provided".
Anugwueje also disclosed that students who volunteered to
serve the school during the games are expected to resume official training
and workshops on the same day to enable them learn before the games kicks
off 27 November.
He noted that the school would put adequate security in
place to make protect athletes and properties during the games.
"We are also going to resume workshop on the aspect of
security, we want to make sure that everything goes well with the
participants in and outside the games.
"As long as you are in and around Uniport we will make
sure that your welfare is well protected until the game ends" he assured.
Two private Universities Igbinedion University Okada and
Mary Jones University Benin would also participate in the games.
