Sack fever grips Anambra govt officials
• Cabinet reshuffle imminent
FELIX UKA,
Awka
THERE was
tension at the Anambra State Government House, Awka, yesterday as commissioners,
special assistants and advisers complied with Governor Chris Ngige’s order to
submit handover notes preparatory to a cabinet reshuffle.
The handover notes were being submitted to
the principal secretary to the governor, Mr. Emma Nwosu, raising fears of
imminent job losses.
Gov. Ngige had, last Sunday, during a
press briefing in Lagos, said he was about to re-engineer the state civil
service through a cabinet reshuffle to put "square pegs in square holes".
Reliable source, explained to Daily
Champion that on return from the United States of America, he would dissolve
the cabinet.
The memo asking government functionaries
to submit their handover notes which was signed by the principal secretary for
them 12.00 noon yesterday to tender the documents.
Confirming the development, Senior Special
Assistant to the governor, Mr. Fred Chukwuelobe, told Daily Champion that
there was going to be a cabinet reshuffle.
Chukwuelobe said the issue of submitting
handover notes was normal procedure in administration saying that there may be
swopping of positions as there were no indications that anybody would be dropped
from the cabinet.
Meanwhile, many of the functionaries were
seen talking in low tones, while some were said to have commenced lobbying for
juicy positions.
The governor last week got approval of the
state House of Assembly for three of his commissioner-nominees.
They are Dr. Okey Enemuo, Hon. Charles
Amilo and Dr. Edwin Erinne which would bring to 11 the number of commissioners
in the cabinet.
The state deputy governor, Chief Ugochukwu
Nwankwo, had doubled as the Finance commissioner, but indications are that a new
Finance commissioner would emerge after the reshuffle.
