Dont recognise Akande, INEC told

By Bayo Oladeji

Senior Correspondent, Abuja

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has been warned against giving recognition to the Bisi Akande faction of the Alliance for Democracy (AD) or be ready to face the consequences.

The National Secretary of the Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa faction, Manzo Abubakar issued the warning on Tuesday in Abuja in a chat with journalists.

He said, The INEC has shot itself at the foot by attending the Lagos carnival called convention having been served the court order that asked us to maintain the status quo. Now that the INEC has attended the Lagos charade, we dare it to recognise the Akande faction and see the consequence. Because the day it does so, we will go to court.

He said the convention that ushered in the former Osun State governor as the Chairman of AD, was illegal and unlawful and you can not put something on nothing. INEC is expected to be an unbiased umpire but from what we have been hearing and seeing so far, the reverse is the case. What some INEC officials are doing is showing that they are being induced. This is unprecedented. It will truncate this nascent democracy.

Manzo accused some INEC officials of allegedly working for some forces trying to kill the party. But he is optimistic that they will not succeed, Akinfenwa remains the chairman of our party. We stand by the Abuja convention held on December 16, 2003.

The AD scribe wondered why the INEC has to turn its back at a faction that followed the party constitution and has the majority of its chieftains with its members.
