A cleric, Rev. J.C. Okoye has
blamed the nations economic and political woes on the nonchalance and
laxity of religious and spiritual leaders to their divine roles of
interceding between Nigerians and their creator.
Okoye who is the primate of
the Congregational Church of God, Enugu said most of the nations
religious and spiritual leaders have abandoned the spiritual health of
their flock in pursuit of material acquisitions and gains.
He said the continuous failure
of efforts to improve the country despite the abundance of human and
material resources is indicative of the need for more spiritual
efforts.
He urged Nigerians to
challenge their spiritual leaders to purify themselves and to sincerely
fast and pray for the nation in order to earn divine grace to turn the
nations fortunes around.
He said, God is angry with
Nigeria and He is not listening to our prayers because His prophets and
messengers have turned from his ways. They are now occupied with the
things of the world; they want to be more powerful than the President,
they are involved in all kinds of iniquity.
God placed the well being of
the nation in their hands but they chose not to do their work. There are
also so many false prophets. I want to challenge all true men of God to
declare a three-day prayer and fasting for this nation and let us see
whether God will not answer us and whether all these intractable political
and economic problems will not just disappear like a puff of smoke, there
is no other way out.
Tell me what is produced in
Nigeria that is enjoyed by Nigerians. Political leaders are men of
iniquity and that is bad enough. When supposed men of God join the circle
of iniquity, disaster faces the nation. Check all the holy books and see
what happened to nations where such things happened, he said.
