Governor Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano State has promised to finance the Jigawa state branch of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) following the decision of Governor Turaki to dump the party for the rival Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
According to Daily Trust investigations, the decision to take over the financing of the ANPP in Jigawa state followed an earlier request put by the leadership of the party for the intervention of the Kano state governor.
According to Honourable Farouq Adamu Aliyu, who was one of the Jigawa delegates at the meeting, the Governor has pledged to finance the state ANPP in the same way he finances the Kano ANPP.
At the meeting our reporter gathered that the Governor asked the delegates to invite all stakeholders from the state to discuss the recent development, even as he told the leadership of his will to steer the Jigawa state ANPP to greater heights.
It was in respect of this that the ANPP leadership under it’s chairman, Alhaji Babannan Rabo Aujara invited 75 ANPP bigwigs including serving commissioners, Advisers, all federal house of representative members, state house of assembly members and a host of other party elders to the meeting with Governor Shekarau in the Kano government house.
Daily Trust further gathered that the ANPP leadership in Jigawa called a meeting in Dutse Monday but was shelved after a faction of the party believed to be in support of the governor’s move to PDP locked the secretariat in protest of the planned meeting.
When our reporter visited the secretariat, the gover-nor’s loyalists, led by Alhaji Muhammadu Daguro the erstwhile Deputy Chairman of the ANPP, told newsmen that the meeting would not be allowed because according to him the office is a property of the state government and not ANPP.
However, as the Turaki loyalists locked up the party secretariat, a member of the ANPP house of representatives, Alhaji Farouq Adamu, who came in with his followers told newsmen that an arrangement had been concluded between Governor Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano state and the state ANPP followers over ways to salvage the party in the state.
While describing the unfolding political development as anti climax, the legislator described the situation as treacherous and an abuse of the people’s mandate by governor Turaki.
