Last Updated: Friday, November 12th, 2004 HOME | Previous Page -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ibori visits Obasanjo By Chesa Chesa, State House Correspondent, Abuja Still basking in the euphoria of his remarkable legal victory over his political opponents, Delta State Governor, Chief James Ibori, on Thursday visited Aso rock to confer with President Olusegun Obasanjo. The parley, to which journalists were not invited or allowed in, lasted for about an hour after which the governor left and declined a chat with anxious newsmen. Aso Rock officials made no official statement concerning the surprise visit available to State House Correspondents but Daily Independent learnt that discussions centered on the recent travails of the governor, the state of affairs in Delta State and the Niger Delta region. All through his entrance from the pilot gate of the villa to the President�s office, Ibori received congratulatory greetings from Aso Rock staffers and visitors. It was sweet victory for the Delta State governor last Monday when an Abuja High Court declared him innocent of the charges of being the James Onanefe Ibori who was convicted of criminal breach of trust and negligence by a Bwari Area Court in 1995. The suit was filed by two Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftains in Delta State who were on Tuesday suspended by the state chapter of the party as a result of their roles in the saga that lasted nearly two years. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Copyright© 2004.
