Lam says Anambra crisis may scuttle democracy
By Sola Shittu
Report, Ibadan
Former Oyo State Governor Lam Adesina on Thursday said the crisis in Anambra State is a dangerous political game
that could affect the destiny of Nigeria as a political entity. Speaking at the end of a Ramadan prayer, Tafsir,
held at his Felele home, Adesina said the incident could not help democracy and that if care is not taken, some
people might use it to scuttle democracy in the country.
This is a political disaster. It will not help our growing democracy. If they want to remove Ngige, why not set
the process in motion instead of all these troubles. I know from history that any recurring problem in any part
of the country may affect the political destiny of the country so the president must do something, he said.
Lam said it would be an unfortunate incident if the presidency is found to have a hand in the trouble in that state.
Making reference to a similar crisis in Plateau that led to the suspension of Governor Joshua Dariye, Lam said
the return of Dariye and restoration of democratic structures in Plateau State should not be subject to controversy
at all.
There is no need to argue on Dariye at all. Democratic structures must be put in place otherwise it is a precedent
that may be very dangerous for the future, said Lam.
He cautioned the government on its approach to issues of controversy in the country even as he urged that things
must be done to protect the interest of democracy.
