Emordi, others blame Ngige for crisis in Anambra
By Uchenna Awom
National Assembly
Correspondent, Abuja
Anambra State Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Uchenna Emordi, and some lawmakers in the National
Assembly of the state origin blamed on Thursday the recent mayhem in the state on Governor Chris Ngige.
The latest crisis led to the torching of some public buildings including the governors office, the state independent
electoral commission office, radio stations and others government institutions.
Addressing journalists at the National Assembly, Emordi, flanked by Senator Ugochukwu Ubah and Representatives
Jerry Ugokwe, Ralph Okeke, Harry Oranezi said it was Ngiges security outfit, the Anambra Vigilante Service (AVS)
that attacked Chris Ubahs faction of the PDP that flagged off their campaigns for the December 18 council polls.
He also alleged that it was the AVS that damaged the government house, radio stations and the ANSIEC offices just
to whip up public sympathy.
Emordi said the governor concocted the attack as an escape route to avoid the election that would see him loosing
grip on council finances which he has been enjoying, just as he would have lost a firm grip of the PDP structures
in the state, thus putting paid to his 2007 re-election ambition.
Ubah who was leader of the National Assembly caucus said the immediate cause of the fracas was the discovered by
the Chris Ubah faction that the chairman of the state independent electoral commission who happens to be Ngiges
maternal uncle, and his men were trying to adopt the governors list of candidates for the council polls.
The list, he said, is against the harmonised one that the national headquarters of the party presented and which
is the authentic one.
Shortchanging the people with barely one month to the election is not acceptable and also smacks of indiscipline
and disregard to party rules, he said.
Ubah said the crisis was unfortunate and could have been avoided had common sense prevailed.
