Army Hands Over 8 Robbery Suspects to Police

Three women out of the eight armed robbery suspects and their accomplices, who were arrested within the Nigerian Army Cantonment, Ojo, were formally handed over to the police by the Army in Lagos yesterday. Speaking during the ceremony, Assistant Director Public Relations, 81 Division, Nigerian Army, Col. Abayomi Dabiri, said the essence of this was to demonstrate Army's resolve to flush out undesirable elements from the barracks. Speaking on how the suspects were arrested, the PRO said around midday on Nov. 4, six suspected robbers, raided a bank in ASPANDA area of Trade Fair Complex, after which, the robbers snatched a vehicle to facilitate their escape, Dabiri said: "Luck however ran out for them, when the vehicle seddenly got immobilised around the Agip entrance of the Cantonment. The robbers, sensing danger, took to their heels, shooting sporadically into the air. "In the ensuing confusion soldiers on duty arrested two of the robbers by the gate. Immediately, the area was cordoned off. On interrogation, the robbers mentioned some of their associates, who took refuge within the cantonment and its environs. This prompted the authority, who directed that the entire cantonment be sealed off and the suspects arrested", Dabiri gave the names of the arrested robbers as Michael Francis, Joshua Oruremo, Christopher John, Bulus Godfrey, all males, Miss Gloria Diagboya, Miss Joy Ukrakpo, and Miss Omeyi John, while Tony Bossy was caught while trying to escape from police cell with handcuff. "We are hereby handling over the suspects and their accomplices to the police for further interrogation and prosecution and wish to seize this opportunity to reiterate that our barracks are no havens for criminals", he warned.
