No Yes Indifferent View results NAPEP, Not Waste of Resources Says Lagos PDP By Sheriff Balogun, 11.11.2004  The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said contrary to the campaign of calumny by the Lagos State Government, the National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) is not a waste of resources. According to a statement made available to THISDAY, signed by Mr. Muyiwa Collins, Commissioner for Information  and Strategy  Lagos PDP Shadow Cabinet said that "according to media reports crediting Governor Bola Tinubu as saying that the federal government  National Poverty Eradication Programme (NAPEP) is a waste of resources and that the money should have been channeled through the state governors". Collins said that the claim is not only embarrassing, mischievous and defamatory but a scheming to shift  attention in the current democratic dispensation from Lagos State. He noted that in Nigeria today through NAPEP, a lot of Nigerians have been saved from unemployment  markets  through "KEKE NEPEP" both in the rural areas and major cities in Nigeria. "Also an appreciable percentage of the unemployed have benefited from the scheme, especially school leavers  who have been trained by NAPEP in various vocations and today they are self employed", he added According to him "we want to challenge Tinubu to come out with evidence at his disposal to substantiate his claim. But one wonders whether it has never occurred to Tinubu that it's a waste of Lagos merge resources to spend Hundred million naira to train his thugs in uniform, LASTMA abroad". He said, because Tinubu is uncomfortable with the resolute determination of PDP not only to take over Lagos State but also to expose the financial proligacy of his government and mal-administration, and has now resulted to campaign of calumny". "Tinubu's fears have resulted to him and his cohorts making some unguarded attacks on PDP and particularly Minister of Work Senator Adeseye Ogulewe and our national Vice Chairman South west, Chief Olabode George", he added.        He  accused Tinubu of lacking the moral justification on his claim that NAPEP is a waste of resources when he could not account for over N150b he has collected from the federation account since 1999 and the several billions of naira on ecological fund.
