Blast rocks A. Ibom House INEM AKPAN-NSOH, Uyo LEGISLATIVE proceedings at the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly were put on hold Tuesday following a suspected bomb blast on Monday night. Daily Champion gathered that suspicion of a blast was triggered off when staff of the Assembly noticed black spots at the main building as well as shattered glass windows Tuesday morning. A source within the Assembly told Daily Champion that the development led to the invitation of experts from the bomb disposal unit of the police to the scene. At the complex yesterday, a man who simply identified himself as Mr. Nwamayah of the police bomb disposal unit told journalists that damages done to some parts of the Asembly building were caused by a bomblast. He, however, refused to give details on the incident, saying the state police command and the State Security Services (SSS) have commenced investigations into the matter. Mr. Nwamayah assured the Assembly leadership that the police would get to the root of the matter. Speaking with newsmen, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Political and Legislative Affairs, Mr. Udo Ekpeyong, said such development was a surprise to the government and people of the state.
