Doctors end strike ADEZE OJUKWU RESIDENT doctors in the country rounded off a nationwide two-day warning strike Tuesday with a declaration that the action may resume soon unless their demands for better working conditions are met. The doctors, under the aegis of National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD), had withdrawn their services thereby paralysing activities in government hospitals and health centres across the country in what they termed "a warning strike" to press for long-standing payment of their salary arrears. National president of the association, Dr. Jerry Oguzie, told Daily Champion exclusively that the strike was successful as members who are currently awaiting further directives from the secretariat, complied fully with the stay-off-work action. He lamented that resident doctors who are medical officers undergoing specialist course in various government-owned tertiary health institutions, had been facing arduous and unbearable conditions which culminated in the protest. However, he hinted that the federal government may have opened negotiations with the aggrieved doctors, although he did not give details. His words: "The Health minister is not sleeping over this matter and understandably, he will attend to it soon".
