Wabara condemns the violence
From Alifa Daniel, Abuja
SENATE President Adolphus Wabara has condemned the arson and looting in Anambra State.
He blamed the recurring crisis on the failure of political actors to abide by the directives of the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
In a statement yesterday, Wabara said that in the face of the current crisis, he was confident that the PDP leadership would enforce discipline among the chieftains and members of the party and stem the ugly tide of violence in the state.
He recalled that the Owerri Peace Accord, which he and other political leaders worked out, provided a way out of the Anambra crisis, adding that the feuding parties breached the terms of the agreement.
"The President of the Senate insists that the enforcement of party discipline and genuine dialogue among all political actors in Anambra remains the only route to peace," Wabara stated.
Another senator from the state, Ikechukwu Abana, has called for the suspension of the governor, Dr. Chris Ngige, from the PDP.
Abana accused the governor of undermining the PDP in Anambra by discountenancing the list of candidates selected by the party for the local council elections slated for December 18.
He claimed that the insistence of the candidates to have their tickets led to the attacks by political thugs.
The senator reportedly stepped down for Ngige in last year's governorship election. He has since been enmeshed in court cases to regain his senatorial seat, which the Court of Appeal in a ruling gave to Chief Ben Obi.
He took some judges of the Appeal Court to the National Judicial Council (NJC) for impropriety but the NJC cleared all of them, including the President of the appellate court, Justice Umaru Farouk Abdullahi.
