A seven-member committee has been constituted by the Presidency to find a lasting solution to the political crisis in Anambra State.
The committee, headed by Ebonyi State Governor, Sam Egwu, has three representatives each from the camp of Governor Chris Ngige and that of his estranged political godfather, Chief Chris Uba.
Besides Ngige, others from his camp are a former House of Representatives Speaker, Chief Agunwa Anaekwe, and Dr. Fred Oduah.
Uba; a former caretaker committee chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Dan Ulasi; and the incumbent PDP chairman, Chief Uchenna Emordi, are on the other side.
Our correspondents gathered that the decision to constitute the committee was reached on Friday during a top-level security meeting summoned by President Olusegun Obasanjo.
The committee is scheduled to hold its first meeting on Monday in Abuja.
Egwu was said to have met behind closed doors on Saturday night with Ngige for about two hours, at the Anambra State Governors Lodge, Asokoro, Abuja.
A source at the Governors Lodge said Egwu also met with the Uba faction on Sunday.
Meanwhile, despite partial restoration of police security to Ngige, the governor may raise a parallel security team.
It was learnt on Sunday from sources that Ngige was tinkering with the idea, following fears expressed by concerned elders of the state over his safety and those of other top officials of his administration.
The governors Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Chuks Akunna, confirmed the move to our correspondents during a telephone interview.
Akunna said, Opinion leaders have been pressurising the governor to consider a parallel security outfit to complement whatever the police and other security agencies might provide.
From the look of things, the people of Anambra State will not leave Ngige entirely in the hands of the police.
I think a parallel security network to collaborate with the police might be put in place.
We are still expecting the governor today (Sunday) in Awka, but a full security network ought to be in place to guarantee his safety.
It was gathered that demand for a new security outfit might have delayed the return of the governor from Abuja.
Ngige has been in Abuja since the orgy of violence broke out in the state on Wednesday.
Following an emergency National Security Council meeting in Abuja last Friday, the Presidency conceded to a limited restoration of police and security aides to the governor.
Also on Sunday, elder statesman and former Minister of Aviation, Chief Mbazuluike Amaechi, advised the Federal Government to find lasting a solution to the problem in Anambra State.
Amaechi, a major player in the many peace meetings held between Ngige and his estranged political godfather, argued that since the crisis was moderated from the top, only the top can solve it.
