LG poll: Oyo AD wants justice as court dismisses case
By Sola Shittu
Reporter, Ibadan
The Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan over the weekend dismissed the application of the Peoples Democratic
Party (PDP) Chairman, Mr Segun Kolawole, seeking to quash the Election Appeal Tribunals judgment that gave his
seat to the Alliance for Democracy (AD) candidate, Mr. Joshua Akintaro.
Following the dismissal, AD leaders in Ibarapa East have called on Governor Rashidi Ladoja not to allow sycophants
to misinform him on the matter.
Addressing a news conference after the dismissal of the matter by the state High Court Six judge, Justice Ariwoola,
on the ground that it lacked merit, AD leader, Gabriel Adebayo Adedira, said the action of the PDP chairman and
the state government negates the fresh wind of total submission to the rule of law.
He said the AD remains committed and unyielding in its resolve to reap the fruit of its labour in Ibarapa East
and called on all truth loving Nigerians and democratic forces to come to its aid.
Having worked hard to defeat the PDP at the election of March 27 and having won the case at the first tribunal
on August 16 coupled with our victory at the Appeal Tribunal on October 21 as well as the dismissal of the matter
by the state High Court on November 12, our candidate, Joshua Akintaro, as of law is the chairman of Ibarapa East
and should be so recognised and treated, said Adediran.
Adediran added that since the Election Appeal Tribunal and the court declaration of justice for Akintaro, the incumbent
chairman now moves about the council area in a convoy telling people that nothing would get him out of his office
because the state government has assured him that it would not swear Akintaro in.
He said AD would have dismissed the matter as the ranting of a frustrated man, but it became a source of concern
when the party found out that Kolawole was allowed to attend the last Joint Local Government allocation meeting.
