Anambra: APGA indicts presidency
By Ben Duru
Correspondent, Owerri
The National Chairman of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, (APGA), Chief Chekwas Okorie has described the mayhem
currently playing out in Anambra State as having the signature of the presidency.
He said that the present destabilisation plan is two pronged. One was to cause enough crisis in the state so as
to declare a state of emergency and remove the Governor, Dr. Chris Ngige and the second was to disband the on-going
Elections Appeal Tribunal in the state .
Speaking with newsmen at the Concord Hotel, Owwerri in Imo State, venue of the wedding reception of the traditional
ruler of Obinugwu autonomous community in Orlu Council area of Imo State, Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, he decried the
tactics of the presidency in trying to cause disaffection among the people of the South East.
Okorie said that he was not in the least surprised with the happenings in the embattled state because the presidency
has never made serious efforts to nip earlier crisis in the bud because of their interest.
According to him, the federal government has never hidden their dislike for those in the leadership of the state
and that every effort has been made on a daily basis to cause enough trouble so as to play out the scenario in
Plateau State. The APGA National Chairman went on to say that the Federal Government was bent on installing a candidate
that enjoys its favour and that it has gone to every limit to bring the dream to fruition and that the present
crisis is one of such tactics.
Said he, already a candidate from the presidency has been penciled down for appointment as the sole administrator
of the state as soon as the state of emergency is declared.
He also said that the intention to disband the appeal tribunal in the state was to set the stage for the appointment
of another tribunal which would declare the 2003 governorship election null and void and a new date set for another
election.
According to him, a candidate has also been named to contest the elections under the ruling party and as such it
would go the way of other elections, adding that all the antics of the government is well known to everyone.
He described the whole exercise as laughable because for a government that professes to be democratic to play down
the happenings in Anambra because of the interest it has in the state is an embarrassment.
Okorie was of the view that the mayhem unleashed on the innocent and peace-loving people of the state is unfortunate
and misdirected.
