AD Rep alleges plot for mayhem in Lagos
THE Alliance for Democracy (AD) Leader in the House of Representatives, Wunmi Bewaji, yesterday accused the South-West wing of an opposition political party of plotting to unleash mayhem in Lagos State during tomorrow's planned national strike against high fuel prices.
Bewaji, in a statement entitled: "General Obasanjo, NLC Strike and Emerging State Terrorism," alleged that the party planned to re-enact the recent Anambra violence in Lagos.
A group of hoodlums last week torched several public buildings and vandalised state-owned property in Awka, Anambra State, in what appeared as a well-scripted plot to engineer emergency rule similar to that of Plateau State in Anambra.
Bewaji alleged that the Lagos plot was hatched last Thursday at a meeting held in the Ikorodu area of the state. The lawmaker also alleged that N10 million had already been distributed to the hoodlums who would execute the mayhem in different council areas of the state.
"The plot is to recruit and mobilise thugs and hoodlums to cause fracas in the city, attack and burn down Lagos State government vehicles and buildings including the Lagos State Government Secretariat at Alausa. Certain leaders including Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, Owei Lakemfa, Olusanya etc., have also been pencilled down for attack," the statement alleged.
