Police deny indictment report
Alex Olise
THE police high command in Abuja, has denied a recent report (not in The Guardian that the State Security Service (SSS) indicted the police over the current crisis in Anambra State.
In a statement signed by the Force Public Relations Officer , Mr. Chris Olakpe, a Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), the force described the publication as "false in its entirety as the state security services in Anambra State and its headquarters in Abuja have confirmed not granting any interview to the said newspaper's correspondent."
According to Olakpe, the Police and the SSS are sister services that enjoy a cordial and healthy relationship in Anambra State and the nation at large, and complement each other's efforts in providing security and maintaining law and order.
The high command appealed to the media and the particular newspaper not to jeopardise the cordial relationship existing over time between the two services. It added that the press ought to work towards strengthening the good relationship enjoyed by the two-security organisation.
"Reporters should always check on facts before publishing. However, we remain focused in sustaining cordial relationship with the press while discharging our statutory duty of maintaining law and order," said Olakpe.
