FGC Warri old students to honour ex-principal
ON Saturday, November 20, 2004, the old students of Federal Government College (FGC) Warri, will converge at the college to pay tribute to the school's foremost principal, the late P.H. Davis.
Expected at the occasion include the Minister of Education, Prof. Fabian Osuji, who will be the special guest of honour. Also, two prominent old students of the college, Prof. G.G. Darah and Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, special adviser and secretary (respectively), to Delta State government will grace the occasion as guest speaker and chairman.
The late Davis was principal of FGC Warri between 1968 and 1981 when he retired from the college and subsequently returned home to Britain, where he later passed on to the great beyond in May 2002.
He is adored by the old students of the college for his life of total selfless service to the college. He was totally dedicated and committed to building a generation of Nigerian students who have over the years, contributed significantly to the growth and development of the country.
Founded in 1966, FGC Warri was barely two years old in 1968, when Mr. P.H. Davis became its second principal, taking over from Mr. A.W.E. Winlaw, another expatriate teacher. A one-time British Army captain, he came to Nigeria on the invitation of the Federal Government which had requested him to form the first cadet of Kings College Lagos, during which period he was promoted to an army major.
Later in 1949, he obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Bristol and diploma in Education.
