Oyo to rehabilitate 1000km of road, says Ladoja
From Iyabo Sotunde, Ibadan

GOVERNOR Rashidi Ladoja of Oyo State has announced plans by his administration to tar 1000 kilometres of road within the next 12 months.

This is not part of the mandatory 330 kilometres network of roads, which all the 33 local councils are supposed to tar at an average of 10 kilometres per council within the same period.

Ladoja, who disclosed this at the weekend while assessing the new acquired 1000 hectares of quarry and asphalt plants along Moniya-Iseyin road in the state capital, said aggressive rehabilitation of the state roads would begin soon.

The governor, who expressed satisfaction with the state of the facilities, noted that with the quarry and asphalt plants ready, other areas of development would be explored.

"This is one of our administration's projects, the pace-setting quarry and asphalt plants are in two phases, the first phase is the quarry plant, which is now completed while the second phase is the asphalt plant which would be completed next week", he added.

According to Ladoja, the plant is initially established by the state to tar its roads but the materials are too much for the state alone. The projection is that it would take the next 30 years for the state government to exhaust the materials available there.
