Kalu wants Obasanjo to fulfil pledge to Enyimba
By Christian Okpara
ABIA State Governor Orji Uzor Kalu has called on President Olusegun Obasanjo to redeem the pledge he made to Enyimba Football Club of Aba after their victory in Champions League last year.
Speaking with The Guardian on phone yesterday shortly after Enyimba's semi-final victory over Esperance of Tunisia, Kalu said redeeming the President's pledge to Enyimba would spur the players to victory in the finals of this year's competition.
Kalu, who spoke through his press secretary, Onuoha Udeala, said: "Redeeming the pledge to Enyimba will show that the President appreciates the efforts of Nigerians in lifting the image of the country.
"He showed with the cash awards to the Falcons after their victory in South Africa that he is a true father, who rewards his children when they excel.
"Enyimba has done so much in laundering Nigeria's image and it is just to reward them. They won the cup for the whole Nigeria and not only for Abia State. And now that they are in the finals again, it is proper that the President encourages them."
He, however, pledged to continue to invest more human and material resources to see that the African champions won the crown three consecutive times.
