Gbako LG spends N7.2m on education

Gbako Local Government Area of Niger State, has spent over N7.2 million on the rehabilitation of some primary schools in the area.

The chairman of the council, Mr Timothy Jiya, told NAN in Lemu on Wednesday, that the exercise was aimed at improving the standard of education in the area.

According to him, the local government council is committed to ensuring that all children in the area are properly educated.

``Monies expended on education by both governments and parents are not wasted because education is the lifeline of any society, country or indeed any civilisation,'' Jiya said.

``Therefore, all stakeholders should give education top priority,'' he added.

The chairman, explained that about N600,000 had been spent to set up a computer centre for the council to ensure that all staff of the local government had computer education.

``There is no doubt that computer education at this point is not only an instrument for efficiency in service but necessary to meet the challenges of the modern world,'' Jiya noted.

He added, ``it is indeed because of this new technology that the world has indeed become a global village and Gboko local government would not be left out of this development.

The chairman, disclosed that fertiliser, worth thousands of Naira, were sold to farmers at a subsidised government control price, during the farming season.

He pointed out that the council had also spent over N500,000 to refurbish a tractor.

This, according to him, is to boost farming by encouraging farmers to increase their acreage.
