MONDAY, NOVEMBER 15, 2004           Group charges Obasanjo to curb mayhem in Anambra The interim President of Congress for Igbo Agenda (CIA), Rev. Innocent Peace has called on President Olusegun Obasanjo to stem further mayhem in Anambra. Peace, at a news conference in Lagos on Thursday, charged Obasanjo to direct the Inspector-General of Police to bring the evildoers causing mayhem in Anambra to book immediately. He said the CIA and all Igbo were watching the mayhem being unleashed by yet to be identified people with regret as the police said they could not do anything. ``The buck stops at the president's table and the main objective of government should be the protection of lives and property of its citizens,,'' Peace said. He said the hoodlums were trying to create chaos in Anambra to facilitate d declaration of state of emergency in the area. ``We have been prevailing on the people to be calm and refuse to be provoked, but there is a limit, to every thing,'' he added. On Tuesday, hoodlums allegedly took control of the state burning down key government offices, including the government house gate and state INEC office. Residences of some members of the state House ofAssembly were also attacked and lawmakers forcedto sign a letter indicating that Ngige had resigned.
