Patience, giant water programme coming ...Shekarau urges Kano people

By ADAMU ABDULLAHI

GOVERNOR Ibrahim Shekarau of Kano state has appealed to the people of the state to exercise more patience over the persistent water shortage bedevilling the state over the years.

The governor while acknowledging the perennial water problem in the state, said: "Government is aware of the hardship people are facing due to the scarcity in the metropolis.

Malam Shekarau was speaking when he received the Emir of Kano, Alhaji (Dr.) Ado Bayero who paid him the traditional Sallah homage, Hawan Nassarawa, at Government House as part of the continuation of the Eid-el-Fitr celebration.

He said government would come up with a giant programme to solve the problem through construction of modern water treatment plant to complement the existing ones.

The governor therefore urged the people of the state to exercise patience, as the project may take time to be completed.

He also told the emir that over N500 million was earmarked in the recent supplementary budget for the building of additional classes in schools across the state.

He then advised the people of the state to imbibe the spirit of self-discipline and orderliness in all their dealings and thanked the emirate council and the emir for fatherly advice as well as constant support to the government when the need arose.

Earlier also the Emir of Kano, Alhaji (Dr.) Ado Bayero, had called on the federal government to execute more developmental projects in the states.

Dr. Bayero also called on the state government to provide adequate drugs in the state hospitals in order to fight the scourge of communicable diseases in the society enjoining the government to accord high premium to irrigation farming in the state with a view to providing sufficient food for its teeming populace.

Noting that Sharia is binding upon every Muslim, the emir said it is a duty for all Muslims to adhere to the current teachings of Islam.

Alhaji Bayero therefore commended the state government for introducing the Societal Reorientation Programme, A Daidata Sahu which he described as timely as it is geared towards sanitizing the citizens.
