Presidency: Igbo are not spoilers --Kalu

Abia state governor, Chief Uzor Kalu, has dismissed the insinuation that the Igbo are ``spoilers``in the race for the nation's presidency.

Kalu said at a news conference in Katsina on Saturday that the insinuation was ``untrue''.

Kalu said contrary to the notion that the Igbo were not serious about producing the next president of Nigeria, ``the South-Easterners were determined to have a shot at the presidency, come 2007.''

He said like other Nigerians, the Igbo had capable hands that could compete for the nation's number one political post.

Kalu implored fellow Nigerians ``to give us the chance to contribute our quota to the development of our dear country''.

According to the governor, the igbos would present to Nigerians good materials from which to choose and elect in the 2007 presidential race.

Kalu also denied rumours that he was gunning for the post of vice-president and not the position of a president.

He said he was contesting the presidency of the country to enable him contribute to the progress of the nation.

He also rejected the suggestion that he was fronting for Vice-President Atiku Abubakar or former president Ibrahim Babangida.

He stated that he was offering himself to Nigerians for the post of president, come 2007.

On the speculated third term ambition of President Olusegun Obasanjo, Kalu opined that the Obasanjo would not venture into such a thing.

He said Obasanjo was an internationally acclaimed statesman, saying that anybody advising him to contest for a third tenure was only doing so to rubbish his records.
