DAILY TRIUMPH-Resign or be sacked, Zamfara commissioners told

Resign or be sacked, Zamfara commissioners told

From FAROUK ADAMU YAKASAI, Gusau

COMMISSIONERS in Zamfara state have been directed to resign their appointments with their previous employers or be kicked out.

Addressing journalists in his office in Gusau, the state Attorney-General and Commissioner of Justice, Alhaji Muhammad Sani Takori (mni), explained that most commissioners in the state did not resign their appointments before taking oath as members of the state executive council.

According to him, the commissioners have violated Section 107 (1) sub section (f) of the constitution which requires a person to resign his appointment if he is a person employed in the public service of the federation or of any state, thirty days before the date of the appointment.

Findings by this correspondent have revealed that most of the commissioners took oath of office without resigning their appointments.

Further findings showed that at least not less than 12 commissioners will be affected by the marching orders.

The Attorney-General, however, said those wishing to remain as commissioners can do so by only resigning from their previous employments and those still eyeing their previous employments should resign now as commissioners.

We are only lucky in the state that the state government has not been dragged to court over this matter; if it were in other states we would have now been inundated with litigations, he added.

Alhaji Takori also expressed dismay over recent media reports credited to one of the commissioners resigning from the cabinet due to disenchantment.

He denied any such resignation, describing the publication as false and malicious, advising journalists to always cross check their facts.
