The three Nigerian taekwondoists to the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, Chika Chukwumerije, Martins Obiora and Princess Dudu top the list of major players that will feature in the forth-coming Inspector General of Police/Indomie National Taekwondo Championship. Other top rated athletes for the championship, which holds inside the New Gymnasium, National Stadium, Lagos from December 7-9, include Caroline Eze, Michael Okafor, who won bronze medals at the 2001 World Taekwondo Festival held in Korea; as well as the MVP of the championship, Gideon Haianya. The three medallists are in the 24 – member Nigeria Police team for the championship. The Force Sports Secretary, CSP Uko Jameson said that the Police team has been undergoing intensive training at the Police Training College, Ikeja. According to him, the athletes were drawn from the 12 Zonal commands and the headquarters. "We are the best in taekwondo in the country. And we are not leaving any stone unturned in our preparation for the championship. We are presenting a crack 24-member team including the three medals at the World Taekwondo Festival in Korea in 2001. We have enlisted the best from the 12 zonal commands and the headquarters for an intensive training as the Training College. We are aiming at winning all the categories," he said. The championship will feature eight categories – four male and four female. The kiddies’ categories will also feature five male and three female events. The high point of the championship will be the demonstration of taekwondo skills by over 50 kiddies.
