AWKA— PROMINENT citizens of Anambra State yesterday condemned last week’s attack on the state and blamed it on President Olusegun Obasanjo. They also threatened to drag the Federal Government to court for its alleged complicity in the mayhem and rise against those they called "enemies of Anambra State.”
Meanwhile, former Governor of old Anambra State, Chief C.C Onoh, has vowed to chase out from Enugu, the alleged perpetrators of the Anambra attack, saying that some of them live in Enugu. He said they could not destroy Anambra State and run to Enugu or other neighbouring states to take refuge.
Onoh, speaking at a meeting at Enugwu-Ukwu Civic Centre by the Anambra State branch of Ohanaeze Ndi Igbo said “there is nothing like Ohanaeze.” He said what is existing now are people planted by President Olusegun Obasanjo to destroy Ndi Igbo. Onoh accused PDP of working hard to impoverish Ndi Igbo in general and Anambra State in particular.”It is not a war for the survival of Anambra State but Ndi Igbo. The essence is to dehydrate Ndi Igbo. Obasanjo regards himself as a lord, that he defeated Ojukwu. He does not want you to raise your headagain. I was not surprised at what is happening in Anambra State.
I know it was going to happen. It is not thehandiwork of the two young men. I know it is the handiwork of Obasanjo. All is he is trying to do is topauperise you so that you don’t rise. PDP in Igbo land is here to develop poverty. Anambra people must take action. They should tell PDP to leave Anambra State alone. They cannot set Anambra State on fire and take refuge in Enugu. If you start to pursue them, we will sack them from Enugu.
"If there was a genuine election, there will be no trouble, but when you cheat the people you must suffer. We must take action. If you want peace, you must be prepared for war. There must be a National Conference,” Onoh said.”
Meanwhile, a communique issued after the meeting, warned against the conduct of the December 18 Local Government election which was the bone of contention for the crisis, till further notice and called on the Federal Government to quickly rebuild the destroyed government buildings and pay compensations to those affected by the mayhem. The 18-point communique also called for the removal the state Police Commissioner, Mr.Felix Ogbaudu, and the Commander of the Mobile Police Unit 29 for their alleged role in the carnage. It also called for a judicial panel of enquiry on the crisis to be set up by the Anambra State Government.
