Assassins kill UniJos lecturer From Rakiya A. Muhammad, in Jos A lecturer with the University of Jos, Mr. Bala Ahmed, was last week abducted and event-ually assassinated by unknown persons. Late Bala who was of the faculty of pharmaceutical sciences was declared mis-sing on Monday last week only for his dead body to be found along the Bauchi ring road in Jos. Speaking to our correspondent on the incident, the chief security officer of the university, Mr. Boniface Gida, said some unknown persons had called him last Tuesday on his GSM set saying that “there is a terrorist attack on the faculty of pharmaceutical sciences” and directed the management to conduct examinations in that faculty. Mr. Gida said that the caller revealed that they were looking for four lecturers and that one of the lecturers in their hit list was Mr. Bala Ahmed. The chief security officer stated that he immediately alerted the army com-mand and five soldiers were sent to guard the faculty. Also, he said the divis-ional police officer (DPO), Laranto and Nasarawa divi-sion were put on alert. He said last Wednesday, the crime officer in charge of Nasarawa police division called him to say that a dead body had been found along Bauchi ring road, Jos and when they rushed there, the body was identified as that of Bala. When contacted, the state commissioner of police, Mr. Joseph Apapa, said he was aware of the incident, but there was no formal report of the case to enable investigations. Late Bala who was also the faculty examination offi-cer was described as simple and popular by students. Bala who hailed from Gombe State left behind a wife and two children. TO NEXT NEWS PAGE...
