Group Advised to Execute Relevant Projects

Bauchi State Commissioner for Health, Professor Ilyasu Mohammed, has called on the Community Participation and Action in the Social Sector (COMPASS), to embark on projects that would be beneficial to the common man, as well as raise their standards of living. Mohammed, who made the call when the state team of COMPASS paid him a courtesy call in his office, observed that the team would impact more on the lives of the people when they are carried along in project implementation. While highlighting the various achievements recorded by government towards enhancing the health and education status of the citizenry, as well as reducing poverty, he reiterated government's determination towards ensuring good health among the people through the provision of an enduring primary health delivery services, and promotion of reproductive health programmes, among others. He assured of his ministry's support to the COMPASS team to enable it achieve its set objectives, adding that the state government was always prepared to support programmes that are tailored towards impacting positively on the lives of the people of the state. Earlier, the state team leader, Mrs Juliana Nathaniel said the purpose of the visit was to introduce the project, outline its plan of action, and solicit the support of the ministry towards making the project successful. Nathaniel, who said the project would reach over 2 million people in eight local government areas in the state, also said it would focus on the health and education sector. According to her, interventions in education would be geared towards bridging the school enrolment imbalance between boys and girls, equipping classrooms with basic instructional materials and in the health sector, the project would focus on reproductive health issues and child survival.
