States Rush-in Entries for Henry and Henry Cycling Championship
11.29.2004
The Cycling Federation of Nigeria (CFN) confirmed last night that the First edition of the Henry and Henry Championship slated for this Sunday may pull record entries. Secretary of CFN Olumide Bamiduro said late last night that as at the weekend, virtually all the states that had earlier signified their intentions to be part of the one-day cycling show had rushed in their entries. "As at Friday more than ten states have sent in their entries. And with still more than a week to go, I can assure you that more entries will definitely be received from the states." said the CFN scribe. Interestingly, the Henry and Henry Championship dominated the board meeting of the federation that took place last Friday at the NOC Board Room. Chairman of the federation Rev. Moses Iloh was said to have been happy at the coming of the cycle dealers into sponsorship of the one-day event. Managing Director of Henry and Henry Limited, Mr. Henry Emenike Ezike who had a chat with the top chiefs of the CFN before the board meeting, it was learnt, expressed his readiness to make the championship an annual event. "I am in cycling because I love the sport. I don’t believe in following everyone into one direction. If everyone is into football who will encourage sports like cycling?" Mr. Ezike who wanted to encourage female cyclists had earlier asked the CFN to include the female category in the championship. Female cyclists missed out of the Maltina National Tour, as they were not included. Meanwhile, the press conference to herald the championship has been fixed for tomorrow, Tuesday, November 30 at the Media Centre of the National Stadium in Lagos.
