Afenifere Disowns Ijebu Igbo Meeting By 'Deji Elumoye The Central Working Committee (CWC) of Afenifere, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation has distanced itself from the purported 'general meeting' of Afenifere which took place in Ijebu Igbo on Wednesday, October 3. The committee in a four-point communique issued at the end of the emergency session of Afenifere CWC in Lagos yesterday pointed out that the crowd that met at Ijebu Igbo on September 29, 2004 cannot claim to be representative of Afenifere. According to the communique, no member of CWC was informed of the meeting and none attended the meeting mischievously and clandestinely fixed to clash with the unity convention of Alliance for Democracy. "To that effect, every decision taken and appointments made at the meeting is null, void of no effect and not binding on Afenifere members." The CWC reiterates that the National Congress of the Afenifere fixed for 11.00 am on Tuesday, October 5, 2004 at 6, Jibowu Street Lagos, the national headquarters of the group "shall hold for as long as God is on his throne." While expressing solidarity with the new executive of the Alliance for Democracy and pledging its support in the onerous task of rebuilding the party, the CWC congratulated the AD for successfully holding its unity convention in Lagos on Wednesday. The communique also expressed confidence in the ability of the administrative secretary/deputy national publicity secretary of Afenifere, Mr. Yinka Odumakin adding that "every statement by Mr. Odumakin are not his personal views and anybody that thinks otherwise is free to come and canvass such at the national congress."
