Gaslink MD Resigns
By Mike Oduniyi
Gaslink Nigeria Limited, one of the two main natural gas distribution oufits in Nigeria, has been hit by fresh troubles, following the resignation yesterday of its Managing Director, Alhaji Ibrahim Boyi.
Boyi's resignation, which will take effect from December 20, 2004, came barely one year after the first chief executive and founding partner of the company, Engineer Charles Osezua, also resigned his appointment.
Gaslink said in a press statement yesterday that Boyi resigned to head the management team of another downstream oil firm, Eterna Oil and Gas Plc.
It quoted Boyi as saying: "As you might expect, this decision was personally difficult for me as I have been in the group for almost 16 years. But I believe it is now the right time for me to move on to other areas and I have no doubt that the group policy of developing in-house competencies will guarantee a seamless transition.
Boyi, an executive director in major oil marketer Oando Plc, was first seconded to Gaslink as the deputy managing director but later confirmed as the managing director following the resignation of Osezua in December, 2003.
Gaslink is one of the pioneer natural gas distribution and marketing firms in Lagos, whose franchise covers the Lagos area. It is currently executing a N240 million gas pipeline project that will supply gas to over 20 industrial and manufacturing companies in Lagos. It was still not clear last night, as to what would become of Boyi's position in the major oil marketing firm.
Speaking to THISDAY on the development, the spokeswoman for the company. Miss Tokunboh Durosaro, said the board of the company would now need to find a "competent successor that would help see through the major projects Gaslink is currently handling.
"The board will soon meet to name a successor, while Boyi will still have to do a proper handing over," said Durosaro.
She was not, however, able to confirm reports that a gale of resignation had actually hit Gaslink as some other workers were leaving along with the managing director.
She said "Gaslink would like to reassure the public that during this transition process, business will continue as usual and Gaslink will maintain the same level of service delivery."
The statement also quoted the Managing Director of Oando Plc, Mr. Wale Tinubu, as saying: "Over the past 16 years, Alhaji Boyi has made tremendous contributions to both Oando Plc and Gaslink's evolution. He has made an enormous contribution to our organization and always demonstrated professionalism and leadership personality in all areas of his work. We look forward to working with him in Eterna Oil and Gas."
Boyi started his career in the former Unipetrol in 1989 as Divisional Accountant, Kaduna and in 1996, he became the Finance and Accounting Manager. In 2001, he was appointed the Executive Director, Corporate Planning and Investment of Unipetrol.
