Fuel: Fayose Wants FG, NLC to Dialogue
From Dipo Okunmuyide in Ado-Ekiti

Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State has called for dialogue between the federal government and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) over the recent fuel price hike.

Speaking at a media chat to mark the celebration of 44th Independence Anniversary of the country and eight years of creation of Ekiti at the Government House in Ado-Ekiti yesterday, Fayose appealed to labour and human rights activists to embrace dialogue.

The governor who prayed to God to lead the country in the present circumstance said there should be a meeting point because subsidy cannot continue for ever while at the same time, it is not appropriate for government to introduce policies that will increase the sufferings of the masses.

Fayose who assured that President Obasanjo would announce palliative measures to cushion the effort of the increase said it is not true that the PDP-led government in the country is insensitive to the plight of the people.

He seized the opportunity to disclose that the contract for the dualisation of the major road in Ado-Ekiti, the state's capital will be awarded by the Federal Ministry of Works in Abuja in the next two weeks.

Mr Fayose pointed out that the award of the contract will coincide with the anniversary of 8th years of creation of the state, adding that the Minister of Works, Senator Adeseye Ogunlewe has also assured that the contract for the rehabilitation of Ado/Otun/Omu-Aran road linking Ekiti State with the state will be awarded in November this year.

The governor also disclosed that his administration took the step to employ 1,600 workers into the sixteen councils in the state with each of them absorbing 100 to reduce the level of unemployment in the state and serve as a succour and relief to the people.
