Lagos AD Convention, A Mockery, Says Akinfenwa
From Hammed Shittu in Osogbo
Factional National Chairman of Alliance for Democracy (AD) Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa yesterday described Wednesday's unity convention of the party in Lagos by a section of the party as an exercise in futility that has no future basis.
Akinfenwa who was elected on December 6, 2003 in Abuja national convention of the party told reporters in Osogbo on Thursday that, "the exercise at Lagos has no legal backing because the matter is still before the Federal High Court in Lagos being attended to and remained the authentic national AD chairman."
According to him, "I want to tell you that the convention of a faction of AD in Lagos on Wednesday was a mockery of the judicial system and democratic norms."
Akinfenwa who expressed optimism that the court ruling on the matter would favour him at the end stated that there was no justification for conducting fresh convention as "it is just a waste of resources.
He stressed that "the product of the Lagos convention is a stillborn baby orchestrated by Chief Michael Koleosho, an incompetent nurse."
The National Chairman pointed out that "INEC did not say a group in AD should conduct a new convention and for as long as I am with other members of the party are in great majority, I remained the AD National Chairman for all the party members in the country."
While calling the AD members nationwide to shun the Lagos convention products, Akinfenwa warned them not to parade themselves as the leaders of AD until the final disposition of the suit at the Lagos Federal High Court."
He maintained further that, "Anything to the contrary is against the law of the land and it is therefore illegal. The hurry exhibited by the Lagos group is bound to fail."
Akinfenwa then appealed to his supporters nationwide to remain calm and be law-abiding until further directive on the issue.
