FG Pledges Support for ILO Projects From Juliana Taiwo in Abuja Federal Government has pledged continued support to the International Labour Organisation (ILO) projects in the country especially, those geared towards eliminating child labour and human trafficking in the country. Permanent Secretary Ministry of Labour and Productivity, Dr. Timiebi Korimapo-Agary pledged this commitment at a one-day workshop for capacity building organised by ILO with its social partners in Nigeria as response to the challenges posed by exploitative child labour. She described the situation as worrisome, and expressed Federal Government's willingness to join forces to tackle the issue beginning with a workshop. In his remarks, National Project Manager, International Programme on elimination of Labour (IPEC), Mr. MacJohn Nwaobiala said the workshop was aimed at building capacity with social partners to initiate programmes and funding. "We also want to develop a national policy on child labour, a national advocacy strategy and also establish child labour motivating committee at the communities where the practice is endemic. "Our target also, is to withdraw about 2000 children particularly child domestic workers and rehabilitate and support them within the two-year period of the project which started last year.
