Abia Big Wigs Blames for Lack of Devt
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Works, Senator Idris Kuta, has expressed reservations about inability of the Senate President, Chief Adolphus Wabara, National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party, Chief Vincent Ogbulafor, and other top public office holders from Abia State to use their offices to attract meaningful development to their state.
Kuta, who made the statement in Umuahia, during an on-the-spot assessment tour of his committee, frowned at the deplorable road condition in the state despite huge allocations to effect repairs.
According to him, "under normal circumstances, I am not supposed to be here, because in the first instance, head of the National Assembly, Honourable Adol -phus Wabara is from this state, if he cannot tell me what the requirements are in his constituency, then he is not fit to be where he is."
Kuta, who was also unhappy with other office holder from Abia State, said "to top it all, a member of the Senate Committee on Works, Senator Chris Adighije, and National Secretary of the PDP, Chief Vincent Ogbulafor are all from this state. If Abia State is not able to utilise the services of these giant people, then I don't know who else would be able to do so."
He reminded public office holders that at the end of their tenure, they will still come back to stay with the people they went to represent and if they allow their personal interests to overshadow the interest of the larger populace, then they will have a lot of regrets after leaving office.
In his remarks, Abia State Commissioner of Works, Chief Emeka Stanley, who stood in for the state Governor, Dr Orji Uzor Kalu, thanked Kuta for his remarks, and urged him to do his best to rectify the decaying state of roads in the South-east.
He said the Senator was taken to fairly bad roads by officials of the Federal Ministry of Works instead of almost impassable roads and expressed his willingness to personally take the Committee to see the true state of federal roads in the state.
He urged federal appointees from Abia State to heed Kuta's advise and eschew all personal differences in the collective interest of the larger populace to whom they will all return after serving their various mandates.
