Condom Advert Banned Bauchi From Segun Awofadeji in Bauchi Determined to ensure compliance with the Sharia practice in Bauchi, the stat Sharia Consultative Council has placed embargo on condom advertisement on the state-owned electronic media, saying such adverts promote and encourage immorality, and expose youth to unwholesome acts. The Council, in a Press statement signed by Alhaji Muhammadu B. Madugu, also urged the government to ban "immoral films" aired on the government-owned television station, arguing that such films apart from promoting promiscuity were against the tenets of the Sharia Legal System being operated in the state. According to the statement, "the continued advisement of condom indirectly legitimises fornication and adultery" pointing out that the council may not be able to enforce the section of the Sharia Penal Code, which prohibits fornication and adultery properly, if the government allows advertisement of condom. The council's position was arrived at during its sixth meeting held in Bauchi, commending government for demolishing morocco, a popular liquor joint, and prayed that such action should be extended to Yelwa, Gidan Gwano and sharp corner. The Council also pexpressed happiness on the closure of Plaza Hotel, which was allegedly used for prostitution and other immoral and anti-social purposes.
