Akume Pledges Support for Miss Nigeria Benue Benue State Governor, George Akume, yesterday received Miss Nigeria, Ene Lawani, with a pledge that the state government would support her malaria eradication campaign. Akume, speaking in his office in Government House Makurdi, commended the beauty queen for choosing the campaign noting that malaria was as deadly as HIV/AIDS and requires concerted efforts to tackle. He commended the Daily Times of Nigeria for adhering strictly to the rules of the competition, which has enhanced its integrity. Akume said with the pageant, Daily Times has been able to identify talented and beautiful girls and project them to the society. He advised Lawani to conduct herself with decorum and decency and expressed hope that other female indigenes of the state would emulate Miss Lawani. Akume stressed that Benue was proud of her daughters who have distinguished themselves in beauty competitions noting that a daughter of the state, Mrs. Alice Adekpe, had won the same contest in 1963.
