Goje Seeks Review of PAP Loans Gombe From Saka Ibrahim in Gombe Gombe State Governor, Danjuma Goje, has called for review of the loans given to Poverty Alleviation Programme (PAP) beneficiaries. At a sensitisation workshop on The Role of Poverty Alleviation Programme in the Eradication of Poverty: The Micro-Finance Perspective for Local Government Chairmen and Secretaries, Goje said it was unfortunate that the loans were treated as part of "national cake" by beneficiaries. Goje, who was represented by his deputy, John Yoriyo, explained that the loan is supposed to be revolving, which must be reimbursed to enable others benefit. According to him, "it is high time for government to review the way loans are given. The loans previously disbursed were intended to assist beneficiaries to establish businesses and stimulate economic activities." He said his government was looking into the possibility of collaborating with micro-financing institutions to achieve the desired goals of giving out loans for the purpose of solving the problem of poverty. He believed medium and small scale industries should be considered as beneficiaries of such loans, to boost industrial base and reduce poverty. Besides, Goje said government distributed 145 motorcycles to youth in the state to reduce the level of poverty, adding that "government is looking into various ways of addressing problems aimed at uplifting the living standards of our people," he said.
